9to5 Mac

There has been a lot of speculation recently about whether Apple’s next update IOS 17 will render older model iPhones most importantly iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 7 obsolete since they won’t be able to obtain the software via download and by extension attributes newer models will enjoy. By making older models obsolete, Apple is essentially forcing consumers to upgrade to the latest and greatest model if they want to keep up with the latest software updates

The new software update IOS 17 will contain standby mode, autocorrect, and many more features these older devices will not be able to acquire. A primary concern is the inability to continue to receive important security updates after a period of time. Another is the rapid depreciation of their values and worth.

It is said that making updates unavailable after so many years is a strategy many believe Apple utilizes aimed at encouraging consumers to acquire newer model phones.

The company frequently releases new features and updates that are only compatible with the latest models, creating a sense of exclusivity and desirability around these devices. However, this strategy has its downsides. For one, it leaves older model phones vulnerable to security breaches and hacks, putting users’ personal information at risk. Additionally, the rapid depreciation of older model phones can be frustrating for consumers who have invested a significant amount of money in their devices. While Apple’s strategy may work for some consumers who are willing to upgrade their phones frequently, it can be a source of frustration for others who simply want a reliable and secure device that will last them for years to come.

Ultimately, the decision to sell, upgrade or stick with an older device is a personal one that depends on individual needs and priorities.
